A new breed of dogs, and their health
As Tamaskans as a race were created relatively recently, it is very important to run the breeding with great care for the health of dogs.
All dog breeding farms belonging to the TDR are required to perform appropriate check-ups on the bred dogs, and since Tamaskans are still evolving, more research is done than in other breeds. Every dog bred MUST have the following: eyes examined, x-rays for hip and elbow dysplasia, genetic checkup testing confirming its parents (in the Neogen Geneseek database) and a test against any genetic diseases (in the MyDogDNA or Embark databases).

Why is this important?
What diseases are threatening/threatened the Tamaskans?
Each breed of dog has is susceptible to various diseases. However, responsible breeding can eliminate most of them, and significantly reduce risk of developing others. This is why it is important to carefully check what tests were made to the parents of the litter we would like a puppy from, and if that breeding belongs to the TDR (The Tamaskan Dog Register), which controls it and allows only the tested dogs in the breeding. Currently it is assumed that Tamaskans are prone to hip dysplasia, degenerative myelopathy, cryptorchidism of the hip joints, epilepsy, Addison's disease, cataracts, digestive problems/food allergies.
How to read the Tamaskan test results?
HD-the study of hip joints. Hip dysplasia can result both from congenital defects and developmental defects. Most popular among Tamaskans are the FCI (the best "A"), and BVA (the best "0"-"10") tests.
ED-examination of elbow joints dysplasia may result from both congenital malformation and malformation, among Tamaskans the most popular are FCI (best "0/0") and BVA (best "0/0").
Eyes- Eye tests confirmed by the certificate issued by authorized dog ophthalmologists, which confirms healthy eyes of the dog, free from the most popular diseases. The certificate is valid for a year, so the test should be repeated regularly.
DM- a serious genetic disease clinically manifested after the productive age, therefore, to exclude it, genetic testing needs to be done, and a healthy dog is marked "Clear (N/N)" then, or if the parents of the dog are free from DM - "Clear by Parentage (N/N)"
MyDogDNA-- if after ca. 200 genetic tests the dog is healthy and free from all the diseases, and is then marked "Clear for all", it can still be a carrier, and cannot then be crossbred with a different carrier of the same disease. Sick dogs are not allowed for breeding.
Neogen GeneSeek- every dog from a breeding farm must have its pedigree (relationships with parents) confirmed in a lab test. Thanks to this study and the 100% confirmation of the parents it is possible to exclude the DM with tested parents
